Last year my friend upgraded his GIRLFRIEND 3.1 to GIRLFRIENDPLUS 1.0
(marketing name FIANCEE 1.0) with no apparent problems, except for the
addition of a small piece of extra hardware.
Recently he upgraded FIANCEE 1.0 to WIFE 1.0, and it's a memory
hogger. It has taken up all his space, and WIFE 1.0 must be running
before he can do anything. Although he did not order them, WIFE 1.0
came with plug-ins such as MOTHERINLAW and BROTHERINLAW.
Anyway, I tried running GIRLFRIEND 2.0 with GIRLFRIEND 1.0 still
installed, but they used the same i/o port and this resulted in many
conflicts. Then I tried to uninstall GIRLFRIEND 1.0, but couldn't as
it didn't have an uninstall program and refused to budge.
I tried to uninstall it by hand, but it put files in my system
directory. Another problem with all known versions of GIRLFRIEND that
I've used is that it is totally object orientated, and only supports
hardware with gold plated contacts.
Some features I'd like to see in the upcoming GIRLFRIEND 4.0:
A "don't remind me again" button
A "minimize" button
A shutdown feature
A install shield feature so that GIRLFRIEND 4.0 could be completely
uninstalled if desired without loss of cache and other objects.
A "abort" button (pretty bad but needed to be said...)
****** GENERAL WARNINGS ******
WIFE 1.0 has an undocumented bug: If you try to install MISTRESS 1.1
before uninstalling WIFE 1.0, WIFE 1.0 will delete MS Money files
before doing the uninstall operation itself. Then MISTRESS 1.1 will
refuse to install, claiming you have insufficient resources.
Don't try to install WIFE 2.0 without having completely removed all
traces of WIFE 1.0 from your system as this will lead to unnecessary
>onflicts.
